    這首歌是美國節奏與藍調歌手Sam Cooke於1964年所錄製的,這首歌為60年代公民權利運動的例子。

    Cooke在1963年聽到Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind"非常感動,但也很疑惑為什麼這些種族主義的抗議歌曲,都不是黑人歌手所創作。於是他在巡迴的時候就創作了這首歌。其實這首歌也反應了他的內心折磨,在那段時間,發生二件讓他很難過的事情:第一件是他一歲半的孩子溺死;另外一件就是他們的團員被警察逮捕。
